Last night the moon was a cat’s eye, poised high against a clouded sky
And I, a starstruck vessel, briefly passing by

variations on the beginning of an old poem
first born against an autumn sky, more than twenty years ago, during our first residence in Peru – where the southern sky turned my perspective upside down
… before the news of a coming daughter
who would join our two sons on a november morning to herald not fall, but spring
